Psilocybe caerulescens occurs naturally throughout the southern United States, Mexico, and South America. The spores for this culture were collected by Yoshi in Vera Cruz, Mexico in September '23 and have an iNat# 183995224. These are known as "derrumbes" or landslide mushrooms and typically fruit in large groups from disturbed muddy, clay rich soil with woody debris. Yoshi successfully fruited it indoors on a substrate of coir, vermiculite, and hardwood sawdust. This species is historically significant for our hobby because it was the mushroom consumed by R. Gordon Wasson during his first session with Maria Sabina, the fallout of which sparked interest in the American public regarding home cultivation of Psilocybin mushrooms.
